Heart versus Machine
Resistance to AI is Growing
VS
The resistance to AI and data centers has exploded across our nation. The current attention surrounds the environmental cost of data centers. And then there is an emerging pattern of corporate greed joining the bandwagon of replacing human workers with AI. AI does not require a paycheck, healthcare, vacations, etc. Corporations are drooling over all the money they can safe by eliminating human workers as they ramp up replacing staff with machines. People are starting to understand how AI and data centers without regulations (and even with) can negatively impact their lives and communities.
The Tech Bros hype all the benefits, cite UBI as an alternative for those who AI will replace. Their preferred outcome will touch every aspect of a person’s life, and for the majority it will be untenable. The truth is, they really don’t care about anything but themselves. In fact, they believe ONLY the tech giants should be in charge of the world. To them democracy is a flawed system and it should be their superior intellect in charge. While their real goal is accumulating money and power to control the masses.
This drive for replacing humans with machines is a defective platform. No matter how fast AI can respond it is still just ones and zeroes. It spits out what it is fed and while the words it returns may imply emotion, it has none. There are numerous ways AI can contribute to society that helps humanity and the environment. But it can never hold a dying person’s hand, comfort a child, love a pet or replace the emotions that drive people to create, invent and help others.
A prime example is how the two political parties operate. Since the 80s the GOP has focused on using emotions to build their support and divide the masses. The conman himself, DJT, understands intellectual appeals do not work. You need to use emotions to ignite the flame. And they have used this method to keep the power in the hands of the money makers. The DNC forgot this basic fact of emotional appeals, focusing on policies and logic to motivate their base. This centralist democrat strategy continues to fail today and there are many who want to continue their own power and money opportunities. It is progressives who understand people vote based on how their lives are affected. Most people do not make their decisions on fact, but on how they feel.
The AI gang assumes intellectual capabilities are superior to emotional. But if you look closely and understand underlaying archetypes are based on gender it gives a better view of why they support the patriarchal power structure of male superiority.
“Common stereotypes associate high-level intellectual ability (brilliance, genius, etc.) with men more than women”[1]
“For decades, the belief that women are more emotional than men has been one of the most consistent gender stereotypes”[2]
As with all new technology enthusiasm and possible profit override the question as to whether it is beneficial to the environment and communities. The masses are tossed aside as ignorant of what technology can provide, so their views are ignored. As for the environment, they know it is a finite source and don’t care if they damage it as long as profit is made. They care even less if it damages people and communities. After all, we call our planet Mother Earth which implies it is of the female gender where the heart rules, not intellect.
We are at the point of a major decision regarding the future of the human race and planet. Continue down the path of letting money and power make the decisions for everyone else, or turn away and fight back for a structure built to embrace the needs of us all. I am encouraged by the number of people who are standing strong against the powerful. Who understand we are the caretakers of the earth and our fellow man. The current inequality of power can no longer continue. It is those of us who lead with our hearts who need to reclaim our future.
**Note to those who will consider me a luddite or think I don’t understand technology. I was a professional in the technical side of Information Technology for 34 years. I have witnessed firsthand how technology has poisoned people with their social media, replaced people with machines in services requiring the human touch. And now they are accelerating the destruction of the only place we can call home, Earth.
